There are many things to consider when having a new front door made. It really can make the look of a house change and can be what people use to identify your home.
Some people are put off by timber doors, and below we have listed some of the concerns that people have:
- Timber will not be as durable as Upvc:
Timber is a solid, dense material, and cannot be broken like plastic doors can. This also means that timber doors allow better security and will outlast uPVC doors. - Timber doors are too much maintenance:
With new timbers being introduced, maintenance can be at an all-time low! Timbers such as Accoya, with a 50-year anti-rot guarantee, mean that the timber doesn’t take on moisture which stops paint cracking and flaking. On hardwood timbers such as Oak, some maintenance will be required. For example, a coating of Osmo oil once a year or, if coloured, painting being carried out every 2 years as Oak will naturally want to change colour. But we feel this is not a bad price to pay to have the luxury of beautiful bespoke timber doors! - Style type:
The joy of having a bespoke door, is you can have whatever style or colour you decide! You can have doors with glass panels to help to lighten a dark hallway, traditional style or match the existing style too! Some customers choose to use stained glass they have recovered from the property into the front door, to add even more character.
We hope this has helped to answer some of the questions you may have had regarding a new front door, and if we can help with any other questions you may have, please feel free to contact us for an informal chat.
