Our Process

Everything we make is bespoke and therefore unique. We specifically choose the best materials for your project, whether it is character grade oak for a period property or durable, stable hardwood for painted windows.

We order your wood and when it arrives, the Tucker process can begin.

We machine the raw timber to its precise size and then check check check. We don't like making mistakes and pride ourselves on our precision. Once the machining is finished the magic begins. We employ traditional techniques and ancient skills to transform the wood and expose its beauty. Even the works for the craft are lovely - mortice and tenoning and dovetail joints or wedges. More hand finishing follows whilst Lee checks each piece before it leaves the workshop. It is at this stage that we can spray paint or lacquer your project in-house in our spraying area. We even offer a fitting service to make the entire process seamless for you.

Step 1 - Initial Consultation

Step 1 - Initial Consultation

One of our skilled craftsmen will discuss your plans and ideas with you and take some initial measurements. We'll tell you about the different types of wood you can choose, discuss finishing options and whether or not you'd like us to fit the work.

If you're busy and don't have time to see us, we'll simply send you a quote based on a drawing or photograph.

Step 2 - Bespoke Design

Step 2 - Bespoke Design

Once we've met you or received your drawings we'll produce a quotation. When we send you the quote we separate all the elements to allow you to choose exactly what you would like, linked to small, not-to-scale drawings and listing all the key details such as glass specification and the type of wood. This is a working document which we can amend and alter until you are completely happy.

At this stage we'll ask you to sign and return the Acceptance of Order form. This lets us know that you are happy with the quotation and have confirmed that you would like us to go ahead with your project. We don't ask for any payment at this stage; this is broken down into three segments, to be paid two weeks before manufacturing starts, before delivery and finally, upon successful completion of the job.

Step 3 - Expert Construction

Step 3 - Expert Construction

After receiving the Acceptance of Order form, we'll let you know when we will start making your project and agree a delivery date. We hand select the timber a week before we start the manufacturing process, ready to begin its journey through our machine shop.

After everything leaves the machine shop, fully checked, the hand detailing and assembly takes place. We use traditional techniques - mortice and tenoning, wedges and dovetail joints, to turn these beautiful timbers which have been precision engineered in our workshop, into hand crafted windows, doors, roof lights or kitchens.

Finally, we can spray with any range of products; priming, painting and even lacquering to the precise colour you choose. We'd love you to come and see your project being transformed through these stages, at any time.

Step 4 - Precision Fitting

Step 4 - Precision Fitting

It is very important that the fitting of your project is done properly. The Tucker team come fully equipped and are, of course, highly experienced (not to mention fantastically tidy and clean!)

Customer Testimonials

Mr Twiss Tuckers were chosen to make all the joinery which included windows, doors, staircase, banisters etc., for our new build house. It has been a real pleasure to deal with them from the day we met them when we went to visit their workshop, right up to their recent visit a year later to re adjust one of our doors. Their friendliness has been matched by the quality of their workmanship and we are proud to be able to say that all our joinery was done by a lovely family firm in Andover called Tuckers.
P Fabricius "I hope the photos you took do justice to the excellent craftsmanship - we will be back for more work in the future and meanwhile I would be very happy to recommend you to anyone needing high quality joinery"
Mr & Mrs Mills "John and I are delighted with the new bedroom window, it matches the old one perfectly but keeps out the draughts! We knew we would get a great bit of work as we had been so thrilled with the front door you made previously. The quality of work, finish, and craftsmanship is only matched by the reliability and friendliness of the team."
P Fabricius "With such a lovely (and listed) house, it was important to us to find someone whose work would not only be excellent quality but also sympathetic to the house. When we realised that as a youngster you had been to our house helping your father replace all the window frames so had worked there before, that was a real bonus!"
Parsonage Farm "We can thoroughly recommend Tucker Joinery to any business, they are highly professional, efficient and adapt at meeting requirements. The work they have undertaken has been completed to a high standard at a reasonable price." -
Church Council of Shipton Bellinger "Thank you for the wonderful kitchen you have created for the Church and also for making and donating the altar rail. It really makes a difference and everyone very much appreciates it."
Mr & Mrs Annis "Thanks for a fantastic job; we are delighted!!!"
V Lane "Lee and his dad did a fabulous job on our kitchen and we love it"
Stephanie Staton-Young Tucker Joinery made four special windows for our home - two were to hold antique stained glass and the others need to replicate the originals at the front of the house. Lee did an excellent job and the windows are beautiful and a perfect historic match. He and the team also made a new staircase and worked closely with the site manager to get just the right rise and wind to fit a rather complicated space. I do not hesitate to recommend them
Anonymous comment from card given to a customer. Just wanted to say what an improvement your new windows are. UPVC ruin too many historic properties. Well done, you deserve an award
Christine Hooper Regarding the wardrobes, bed and chest of drawers you made for us. We are so pleased with the furniture you have done so far. It is lovely and John has not had to see his physiotherapist for back pain since we have had the new bed! Just as you promised....
Hope you are all well and that business is thriving.

Mrs Francis Lee please thank all your staff for the hard work to produce the kitchen Mike and I have been looking for. Mrs Francis Liphook
Michelle - Charlton, Hampshire “I would like to highly recommend Lee Tucker Joinery Ltd, for the service we received from inception to completion of our lovely new front door. Lee visited our home and talked us through the process and gave advice and his recommendation as to the type of door required that fitted with our idea and confirmed time scales and advised we could also visit our door whilst in production. I did indeed visit the door and it was really interesting to see the workshop and makes you appreciate the time and workmanship that goes into making a bespoke door, I would recommend you go and visit the shop floor and see what other projects that are in production. Lee also took the time to acquire the correct colour for the door to ensure it was the right shade. The door was completed within timescales and a very helpful, caring and professional fitter Matt arrived on installation day and fitted the door with minimal mess and took the time afterwards to ensure we all could gain access using the new keys and adjusted the door accordingly. The whole process was made very easy and I would like to thank you all including the man in the workshop who helped to assemble the door for me to see and Lee, Matt and Emma for keeping me informed and providing a great customer service. Excellent all round service. Thank you very much.”
Mrs Bowden We came across the firm of Tuckers whilst looking for a joiner to to make a bespoke set of Gothic windows inset with antique stained glass. We were expecting a lot of umming and ahing re. this difficult project, but when we discussed it with Mr Tucker, he was enthusiastic and made lots of helpful suggestions.
We were kept informed of the project along the way and visited the workshop to view and discuss the work in progress. Matt who installed the window is an excellent member of the team - he was a clean & tidy worker who took pride in fitting the window - in spite of the wind and rain! We are delighted with the finished product. It far exceeded our expectations and came in at a fair price. We cannot praise the workmanship enough and have already and will continue to recommend Tucker Joinery. Thank you.
Mr Finch Many thanks-the French doors look great and are a good match with the barn building.
Please give my thanks to your teams, both in the workshop and on site.
Kind regards
Fred
We were looking for a joinery company to make a bespoke gothic window incorporating antique stained glass, and came across Tucker joinery. We were expecting a negative response to our difficult project, but it was met with enthusiasm and helpful suggestions. We were kept informed throughout the process and invited to the workshop to moniter progress. When it was finished, Matt did a brilliant job of installing it (despite torrential rain) and he went beyond the call of duty in fulfilling our requests.
A brilliant job - we are delighted and warmly recommend them.
Mrs Khawaja When I bought my cottage there were two aspects which concerned me; security and because it is a listed building, it had to comply to planning standards for Wiltshire. The door is beautiful, incredibly strong, secure and has blocked out around 90% of the noise from a fairly busy road but it also fits in perfectly with my neighbours’ doors and looks like it has always belonged there. Feel much safer and and am extremely pleased.
